April Weather

April 11, 2017

WeatherSo welcome to Spring in the Midwest more specifically Western Michigan. Yeah we had 2 days of 70°+temperatures and sunshine. Then a line of thunderstorms rolls through and poof, 45° and the furnace is running again. Gas prices change just as fast. Hovering around the $2.00 per gallon mark and then overnight poof, $2.50+. Change is inevitable but drastic change always grabs people’s attention. I’m not sure why that is but even as I have reached retirement age I’m still surprised by drastic change and I have seen many. So the question is (for many people at least) is this “climate change” (formerly known as global warming). It was pretty astute for the leftists to rename it climate change since the climate is constantly changing. But as far as “man made climate change” I’m a non-believer. I don’t agree with the premise that we humans have the kind of power it takes to affect this kind of change to our climate. If we actually had the kind of power to change the weather and it’s patterns wouldn’t we eliminate drought? What about floods? This carbon footprint and fossil fuel hatred by the left really makes no sense. Oil is created from the decay of once living organisms and is a “natural” “organic” process. To refine oil into a myriad of petroleum products is an extension of that organic process. I marvel at the ignorance of some on the left (or is it stupidity) regarding the use of fossil fuels to make our lives better without destroying our planet. Can we fly from coast to coast on a vehicle that is powered by the sun or the wind? Or should we abandon the idea of fast travel altogether. Nuclear power is the only serious contender to the power of fossil fuels and yet it is not suitable to power flying machines.

Should we return to the West Coast smog of the 60s? Hell no. I think many of the improvements we have made in cleaning our environment are good. I like the idea of clean air and clean water and clean food free of harmful elements. The ideas of changing the type of refrigerants we are allowed to use and the restrictions on fossil fuels that the left would like to implement are extreme and will have not enough, if any positive effects on our quality of life here on earth. I like modern technology and the things that we humans have developed in this country in the past 100 years. Being responsible for our behavior is basic decency. I believe like the Boy Scouts, when camping, leave the forest or camping area in better shape than you found it. Make it such that no one would know you had been there. So let’s all make our world a better place for our children’s children’s children without driving society back to the days of wagon trains.

Boycotts in America

February 13, 2017

top-10-reasons-to-boycott-companies-that-use-child-labor-e1447200997399Last week I promised to explain what “Five 14 Responding” was about. Well at the age of 34 I began a 20 year (2nd) career with the North Aurora Fire Department. I quickly became an EMT-A and Firefighter I eventually becoming a Firefighter II and a Paramedic. I became a lieutenant and my number was 519 and then I was promoted to Captain and my number changed to 514. All officers took turns being the duty officer for a week which meant that from early evening until the work day started the duty officer would or should be the first on the scene for any calls whether fire or ambulance. The first thing I would say on the radio was “Five 14 Responding” and now you know.

Now about those Boycotts…

It seems lately that if something or someone crosses a large group that group demands a “Boycott”. Case in point: Colin Kaepernick is a backup quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL. He decided to disrespect our flag during the National Anthem prior to the start of every game starting during preseason games. Like many NFL fans I Boycotted the entire NFL season, not because Kaepernick did this but because Roger Goodell who is currently the Commissioner of the National Football League did nothing about it thereby, supporting his actions with his silence. Colin wasn’t alone as many others joined in including some High School players. Everyone has the right to protest but an employer can restrict this behavior from the work place and Goodell did not. Was the boycott effective? Some reports were that the attendance was down and TV viewership was down across all games all season but picked up during the playoffs and Super Bowl. I watched the Super Bowl replay the day after and I watched my beloved Giants in a losing effort in the playoffs these were the only games I watched.

It seems now that many more boycotts are being called for to include products and services provided by Trump supporters, certain liberal actors and celebrities, Black Lives Matter, police and LEOs, military you name it and there is a boycott. Even the women’s movement (which I truly don’t understand) is calling for boycotts. If enough people band together and boycott a product or service it can have a profound effect. The problem is that with so many boycotts being called for the groups are small and largely ineffective.

I’m boycotting Budweiser for its commercial depicting immigrants being picked on back in the day. It was total bull shit. But this boycott is an easy one for me because I don’t like their beer to begin with. If I were to boycott every actor, singer or TV celebrity I disagree with my entertainment choices would be knocked down to “Blue Bloods” and country music. I guess my advice about boycotts is this, choose wisely. Make sure you are really passionate about the cause and make sure it is justified. Remember that if it is successful many people can be affected by it. If a company suffers enough they may actually go out of business only adding to the unemployment crisis we see now in this country. When comparing boycotts to the violence in the streets that we are seeing around the world the choice is a no-brainer.

The Nightmare

November 26, 2014
(I received this in an email... once I stopped laughing I decided I needed to post it in my blog.)
In the nightmare I found myself nude in bed, and I was looking at a mirror on the ceiling, and I discovered that I am a Negro, and I’m circumcised!Quickly I sat up, found my pants and looked in the pockets to find my driver’s license photo and it was that same color. Black.

I felt myself being very depressed, downcast, sitting in a chair.

But it’s a wheelchair!!

That means, of course, besides being black and Jewish, I’m also disabled!!!

I said to myself, aloud ‘This is impossible. It’s impossible that I should be black and Jewish and disabled.’

‘It’s the pure and holy truth’, whispers someone from behind me.

I turn around, and it’s my boyfriend.

Just what I needed!!!

I am a homosexual, and on top of that with a Mexican boyfriend.

Oh, my God….. black, Jewish, disabled, gay, with a Mexican boyfriend, drug addict, and HIV-positive!!!

Desperate, I begin to shout, cry, pull my hair, and Oh, noooooo…I’m bald!!!

The telephone rings.

It’s my brother.

He is saying, ‘Since mom and dad died the only thing you do is hang out, take drugs, and laze around all day doing nothing. Get a job you worthless piece of crap… Any job.’

Mom?… Dad?… Nooooooooo… Now I’m also an unemployed orphan!

I try to explain to my brother how hard it is to find a job when you are black, Jewish, disabled, gay with a Mexican boyfriend, are a drug addict,
HIV positive, bald, and an orphan.

But he doesn’t get it.

Frustrated, I hang up.

It’s then I realize I only have one hand!!!

With tears in my eyes I go to the window to look out.

I see I live in a shanty-town full of cardboard and tin houses! There is trash everywhere.

Suddenly I feel a sharp pain near my pacemaker…. Pacemaker?

Besides being black, Jewish, disabled, a fairy with a Mexican boyfriend, a drug addict, HIV positive, bald, orphaned, unemployed, an invalid with one hand, and having a bad heart, I live in a crappy neighborhood.

At that very moment my boyfriend approaches and says to me, ‘Sweetie pie, my love, my little black heartthrob, have you decided who are you going to vote for in the Primary? Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama???

Say it isn’t so!!! I can handle being a black, disabled, one armed, drug addicted, Jewish queer on a pacemaker who is HIV positive, bald, orphaned, unemployed, lives in a slum, and has a Mexican boyfriend,
but please, oh dear God, please don’t tell me I’m a Democrat

Land of Lincoln to Become Land of the Freed Felons?

March 27, 2014

freeSo it was on the news in Illinois that there is consideration being given to letting prisoners out who have been in prison at least 25 years and are at least 50 years old go free on parole.

Story by 89 WLS Reporter Bill Cameron (CHICAGO) In Springfield, a very controversial bill that would allow aging murderers and other violent felons to go free has been recommended by an Illinois House committee. The idea is to let inmates who are at least 50-years-old and have been behaving in prison ask for parole after they’ve served 25 consecutive years. Proponents argued convicts can and do change… The committee did recommend the bill on a vote of four-to-three with the help of indicted State Representative Lashawn Ford, chairman of the committee.

So is this is a cost saving measure or an overcrowded prison issue, or both? Think of this, you have a family member who is brutally murdered, the killer is arrested, convicted and sentenced to life in prison with no chance for parole. Or a serial killer is sentenced to multiple life sentences with no chance for parole. Your sister is raped and the guy goes away for life. Now fast forward 25 years and they are changed people. They have been rehabilitated to become productive citizens and are turned loose on society.

How many of them would find themselves back in court being tried for the same type of crime 10%, 5%, what number are you comfortable with? We are talking about some 800 possible releases from Illinois prisons. If only 5% repeat their crimes that’s at least 40 new victims. Is that acceptable to you? It is NOT acceptable to me.

My answer to the problem is 180° from this solution. Bring back the death penalty with a mandatory appeal process not to exceed 2 years. The majority of Liberals say a death penalty does not deter crime, has no effect. Even if we assume that to be true, it would help to eliminate the cost of  housing these scumbags and our prison population would come back to a manageable number.

Also, look at the sentencing guidelines and instead of long prison terms being handed out for non-violent crimes make them shorter. They will get the message in 5 years just as well as in 10 years and if not they would find themselves back in prison if they fall back to their old tricks. But with the violent crimes we as a society can not take that chance as it is a real life or death situation.

Bring back the public execution such as hanging or firing squad. This would have a chilling affect on potential criminals more so than a prison term or the death penalty. Having a death penalty is a joke unless society is willing to be ruthless and follow through. If after a conviction you can’t prove your innocence in 2 years then you are not innocent and it’s lights out.

If They Come For Your Guns…

Stand-Your-Ground

Our Forefathers Fought for Our Rights

We tend to shoot off our mouths but when push comes to shove can we really pull the trigger? In Connecticut this is being put to the test and I’ve been following it in the media. Unfortunately, most of the media has a left leaning bias so there is a lot of misinformation at best and outright lies at worse about this news item. Recently I received an email with an article that was written over a year ago (January, 2013) by a fellow named Dean Garrison. You can read it here. But the gist of it is that we American citizens must come to the realization that we are a constitutional republic not a democracy. This article points out that we have a right to defend our freedoms because it is spelled out in the constitution. There is a procedure to change the constitution, no President or Congressperson can pass legislation that contradicts it. If they come to me as a law abiding legal gun owner to take my guns away I have a choice, surrender my freedom or NOT. That not might mean I must defend myself from the government. This is exactly what the framers of the constitution had in mind. I encourage you to verify for yourself as I did that Mr. Garrison is a real person with a valid point. You may even want to go so far as to consult a real constitutional lawyer (Obama is not one). We the people need to wake up, our freedoms are being slowly taken away. You can find dozens of cute little quotes about this but at the end of the day are you really willing to allow our government to destroy our freedoms for the so-called security they claim to offer? The question needs to be answered by every American, gay, straight, black, white or anyone else in the spectrum of American humanity. Are we so weak as to simply shrug our shoulders and say, “what can you do?” Defend the constitution my friends, Obama isn’t and neither is congress. If they were, Obama would have been impeached by now. Stop being that low information voter you keep hearing about. Look in the mirror and make sure it isn’t you. Once they come to your door and want to take your guns then it’s too late, then it’s “game on”!

One of those cute little quotes: “I ask, Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.” – George Mason Co-author of the Second Amendment during Virginia’s Convention to Ratify the Constitution, 1788
